Pennsylvania 2020 Voter File: Sneak Peek
Ever wondered which days of the year are the most popular for young people to register to vote? The day of the deadline, as it turns out! Through a novel analysis of the Pennsylvania voter file focused on 18-year-olds, NVRN research assistant, Olivia Fu (University of Florida 2027) created the exciting calendar below.
This graphic visualization displays the registration dates of those who turned 18 between the November 2019 election and November 2020 election. We have displayed the data to accurately reflect what was in the voter file, and recognize the voter file might have some inaccuracies (for example, it shows some of these people registering to vote before November of 2019 which is before they would have been eligible to register to vote.)
Keep an eye out for next month’s newsletter, where Olivia will walk us through her in-depth analysis of how 18-year-olds differ from the general electorate.
Presentation at the University of Maryland (CDCE Lunch)
On February 27th, three of our NVRN research assistants, (Anish Garimidi, Collin Wang, and Olivia Zhang) presented their research in front of faculty, graduate students, and election officials at the University of Maryland’s Center For Democracy And Civic Engagement.
Olivia presented her novel analysis of the 2020 Pennsylvania voter file. Collin and Anish (pictured) walked attendees through their case study, where they systematically evaluated all high schools in Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania and their voter registration resources.
We are grateful to work closely with the UMD CDCE team. Through our partnership with them, we receive insights from graduate students, practitioners and professors on our research projects at every step of the process to ensure high levels of academic rigor and external validity.
